Review of the Casio G
I like the Casio my watches, except that:It only support Celsius for temperature display, and not Fahrenheit. The vibration is a little weak. The buttons feel a little cheap. It's not the best looking G-Shock I've ever come across.Considering this is a very feature-rich watches brand, however, which can be had forright around $200, I'd say it's still a pretty compelling addition to the G-Shock family. Viewthe Casio G-Shock GW-400J photo gallery.Casio G-Shock GW-400J English manual. I say "roughly" because predictingtides based on a general graphical region is really a lot of guesswork, and sincethere are only 200 locations, you may not even be able configure it for your favoritebeach. I live in San Francisco which isn't included, so I settled for San Diego.Whether it's accurate or not, I have no idea whatsoever, but it's probably more accuratethan guessing.
Review of the Casio G
Right now, it's telling me there is a full moon which I noticed and verifiedon my way home this evening. The phase of the moon is not information I find myselfneeding often, but it uses so little real estate out of the face of the seiko online thatit's actually kind of a fun addition. The tide indicator function of the Casio GW-400J is kind of cool. Since I can'tread the instructions, and I don't have any other watches with tide graphs, I don'tknow exactly how it works, but it seems fairly intuitive. The x-axis representstime over a 24-hour period, and the y-axis represents the height of the tide. Thepoint representing the current tide level blinks to make it easier to spot amongthe other dots. You can set the watch to one of 200 locations worldwide so the graphwill roughly correlate to your geographical region. And if you wereplanning on using the vibrating alarm as a way to wake yourself up in the morning whileallowing your partner to sleep in, you will need to be one incredibly light sleeper.I think the GW-400J generally serves the purpose for which it was intended, however, which is the ability to keep track of time, events, and intervals while participatingin water sports when wind and waves would keep you from hearing a faint high-pitchedbeep. And considering the fact that the GW-400J doesn'thave a lot of power or space to work with, I think it performs admirably, thoughnot was well as the much larger and power hungry vibrating TissotHigh-T.I like the fact that the thermometer can be used for measuring both airand water temperature, although I really wish I could toggle it from Celsiusto Fahrenheit. Admittedly, I can't really blame the nice seiko or Casio for thissince it was never meant for an American audience, however one thing I can blamethe seiko for you for is the fact that you don't seem to be able to reset the thermometerto its factory calibration. I didn't realize this until I had already re-calibratedit into complete uselessness, where, for all I know, it remains to this day. Theonly way to get it to be even remotely accurate again would to manually calibrateit with another thermometer, however since I can't really make sense of Celsius anyway,I never bothered. The GW-400J's moon phase indicator is interesting, and seems to be very accurate. It appears as a small LCD circle at what would be the 3 o'clock position of an analogwatch.
Review of the Casio G
Tide graph based on your general location. Moon phase indicator.World time supporting 32 cities in 30 time zones.Stopwatch with a resolution of1/100th of a second and a max time of 100 hours.Four alarms.Countdown timer. Goes up to 60 minutes and has an auto-repeat function.Automaticcalendar.Electroluminescent backlight. You should know straight away that this nice bell & ross was not meant forus yanks, and in fact, is currently only available in Japan (see below for how to get one). The instruction booklet is entirely in Japanese, and I was not able to findan English version online. Also, the thermometer only displays the temperature inCelsius, and not in good old fashioned Fahrenheit.Viewthe Casio G-Shock GW-400J photo gallery. When I first saw the new Casio GW-400J vibrating watch, I knew I was going tohave to get my hands on one. You see, I'm very in to vibratingwatches. Not because I'm some kind horological pervert, but because they make somuch sense. Ever since a got my TimexInternet Messenger some six years ago or so, I've always felt that digital seiko should have vibrating alarms. What good is it having multiple daily alarms, programmablealarms, auto-repeating countdown timers, and an hourly signal if you can't hear thembecause they are so faint, or because you live in a world where you don't want yourgeeky watch attracting attention? Not only was I tempted by the Casio GW-400J's vibrating alarm, but it's even solarpowered. And atomic. And it has a countdown timer. True, it's goofy looking, butI just named all my favorite digital watch features, and it's very unusual to findthem all in one place. Besides, big black plastic Casios appear to be in right now,at least in San Francisco where I live. Before I get into my review of the Casio GW-400J, here's a list of features: Vibrating alarm. With the GW-400J,the vibrating function is all or nothing. Either you want sound, or you want vibration. The vibrating alarm applies to the alarms, countdown timer, and hourly time signal.Atomic (Waveceptor). That means this watch is automatically calibrated throughradio waves transmitted by atomic clocks. It works in both Japan and the US. Whenyour time zone is set to LA, Denver, Chicago, or New York, the watch automaticallyknows to use the US frequency for time calibration rather than the two Japanese frequencies.Tough Solar. Solar cells around the face keep the watch's battery charged, anda sophisticated power-saving function will keep the watch powered for up to 19 monthswith no light.Water-resistant to 200 meters, or over 600 feet (which makes it suitable fordiving).Thermometer which measures both air and water temperature between -10 and about60 degrees Celsius (that's about 14 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, although the unitsare only in Celsius since the bell & ross was not intended to be sold in the US).
Review of the Seiko SKA367 Kinetic Dive Watch
The weight feels just right to counterbalance the mass of the watch. The movement is Kinetic quartz which means there's a rotor and generator inside the case. When you move your wrist, the rotor spins and a small voltage is generated that gets stored in a rechargeable battery. Unlike the new Seiko Velatura, you can't handwind the SKA367, but it's efficient enough to not be a drawback. The SKA367 uses the 5M62 movement which has a six-month power reserve, low battery warning, and a nifty button at the 2 o'clock position that temporarily re-purposes the second hand to show you the amount of charge currently in the battery. As with most quartz movements, it's accurate to ±15 seconds per month. As you can tell, I very much like this replica bell & ross. It's substantial and handsome, the yellow color is a nice change of pace, and the visual details are a constant source of interest. For diving, weekends, or just daily wear, we recommend it highly.View the Seiko SKA367 photo gallery.Visibility is first-rate during daylight hours as the black on yellow hands are very readable. Each hand has a distinct shape, so there's no confusion at a glance. Unfortunately, the skeletonized hands are a little hard to read in the dark since "Circle means hour" and "blob means minute" takes time to interpret mentally. I prefer solid lume-filled hands, myself, but this is far from a deal-killer.The bracelet is another thing of delight. It's first-rate, and very comfortable for a my bell & ross at this price point. It has a slip-lock wetsuit extension similar to the one on the Seiko Orange Monster, and four micro-adjustments for fine-tuning. Additionally, it has solid links and endlinks, a pushbutton release with flip lock, and, like the rest of the replicas bell & ross, a nice combination of finishes.

The Rolex Anniversary Submariner (16610LV)
The bracelet follows this same pattern which makes it both interesting and understated. The case is particularly detailed, with mirrored bevels, brushed flat su***ces, and a nicely textured bezel for friction.Speaking of the bezel, this is one of the best I've experienced on any gifts for jewelry, including much more expensive Seikos. Looking closely at the profile, you see that the teeth are triangular with a rough finish. This makes it easy to grasp and rotate, which is a good match for the 120-click ratchet and perfect level of friction. It glides beautifully when you want it to, but it's not going to get jarred out of place easily. The font and printing on the bezel are also excellent and easy to read. Unlike most other bezels, every minute is marked, *** for easy and accurate timing — a very impressive and welcomed detail. There's a second motif of circular detail, as well: the yellow ring on the crown, the subtle reflective circles of metal around the hour markers, the circle of luminescent paint on the hour hand, the round covers on the lugs. They all come together to add nice visual accents to a very handsome watch.View the Seiko SKA367 photo gallery. One of the things I enjoy about wearing Seikos is that there's so much to discover post-purchase. Often, a gift for def will have a coherent style that you find you enjoy long after it originally caught your eye. Let's take a closer look at a mid-line Seiko Diver to see what I mean.Meet the Seiko SKA367, a yellow-faced Kinetic quartz dive watch with a typical complement of features:Waterproof to 200m (660ft).Stainless steel case with Hardlex mineral crystal.Quick-set and quick-change date window at 3 o'clock.Power reserve button to check battery level.Six month power reserve if not worn, with low-battery warning.Screwdown crown and caseback.48mm wide by 15mm high.Stainless steel bracelet with dive extension (also available with a rubber strap).Lumibrite (Seiko's very bright luminescent paint) on the hands, bezel dot, and indices for nighttime readability.List price of $475, with street price of around $360.When you first see the Seiko SKA367, the yellow face and high-contrast black hands leap out at you. The dial is eminently readable, and a very cheerful yellow color. The crown also has a yellow highlight band that matches the dial and lends the gift for jewelry a nice stylistic coherence. If you look a bit closer, you'll see a clear motif in the finishes of the steel: flat su***ces have a brushed finish, and bevels are mirror polished.
